Mana Y’i Rwanda – Ko Twariye Umwanda Tuwucire?
By reading the strong language in my writing and without personal context, it may appear as though I am angry, bitter and hateful. Not quite, I just like colorful writing. Im not in the business of pointless small talk. I don’t discuss people to kill time. I wish to adddress traumas, recount history, plan projects . If our words are not groundbreaking and table shaking, please release me so I can go watch Real Housewives. If my brain cells are to die, at least let them die happy.
My feelings on Interahamwe are hard to conceptualize… The reality is this, there are men and women who have no moral compass, no conscience and no heart; they are just there occupying space on earth, all the while knowing we are facing an overpopulation problem. Those people when prompted to kill, kill. I so despise such small people, I don’t usually think of them. This 30-day journal was prompted by a particular group of people I observed this Kwibuka 30 loudly distorting history. They went as far as engaging newspapers in an attempt to dissuade the public on the recorded facts of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis. Their works are of course in vain because the truth always triumphs. “Quand le mensonge prend l’ascenseur, la vérité prend l’escalier.” It is with that in mind, I wished to share my story and correct a lie before it was repeated too many times.
This was no war, no conflict, this was a targeted extermination of a people. To emphasize that point is not to be tribalistic.
I literally only know my tribe, I am not in the national census business. I am not even just Rwandan, I am PanAfrican, we believe in the unity of all Africans and the elimination of neo-colonialism.
What you may be witnessing is closer to shock than anger. I grew up in a sheltered enviroment: my father, the most honorable man I have ever met, has honorable friends. I never heard of men abandoning their blood or beating women or killing others. So understand my shock; when I find out, no only people killed, many got away with it so we may have been breaking bread with killers. The appropriate question really is, why are YOU not shocked. So what you are witnessing is determination, pursuit of justice, truth telling, passion, and fire. Dearest reader, this is not hate. Hate would require consideration. I do not consider interahamwes.
With Unwavering Zeal,
-Liv
