1 of 54: Sénégal – “Land of Teranga”

I have a thing for Sénégal, always have. I can’t pin point the origin of this obsession. Is it the dark beauty of their women? Is it “Thieboudienne” AKA original jollof, traditionally shared on one family platter, Teranga Style (Hospitality)? Is it the men’s Grand Boubou which oozes centuries of class and culture? Heck, at this rate, my next husband may come from there… (Too soon for the joke? Oopsie)

Fun Fact: The nation has 2 first ladies. Polygamy is legal and engrained in the culture. Highlighting also that when we speak of women rights we speak of women having autonomy over their bodies and minds. Therefore, if it pleases a woman to be in a polygamous marriage, so be it.

My sentiment on the matter? Irrelevant. One musn’t understand things to respect them. In fact, as a highly opinionated person, I am learning that not everything is in need of my opinion. In what capacity, would I, a serial monogaminist, non senegalese, speak on the matter?

All in All, “Nanga Def?” (Wollof Salutation). Off to binge Marodi TV on youtube with French Subtitles…

Until we speak again tomorrow, Insh’allah!  إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ
