Ever Dined With a Killer?

Today, business ceases & Rwanda enters into mourning for 7 days. My mind is on all survivors of the 1994 Genocide Against Tutsis, may God carry you and restore what these abhorrent locusts in human form have eaten. Joel 2:25. As always, our Grief Line is open 24/7 this April.

Some months ago, I had the unfortunate misadventure of being in the same room as an immediate family member of a soon-to-be convicted Génocidaire. I was so very perturbed but seemingly, in a room of 300+ people, I was the only disturbed one. Then, it occurred to me, it was my first time coming in close proximity with these things … The elders have seen the devil face to face, literally nothing shocks them.

You will tell me, “Olivia it isn’t fair to blame the family.” In any other context, I would agree. In the case of Rwanda though, I beg to differ. We have 1 million victims killed with agricultural tools (machetes etc.) and only a couple hundreds have been convicted. A LITERAL MATHEMATICAL IMPOSSIBILITY!

This means, lots of you killers are roaming the streets, maybe even reading my blog, often hiding “in the abroad.” It isn’t exactly a stretch to say: (1) If you or your family have traditionally carried anti-Tutsi sentiment. (2) You have an immediate family member accused and/or convicted of the crime of genocide. (3) Was present in Rwanda in 1994 and of age. THEN the logical assumption follows: “It is more likely than not, you killed.” Ofc – all have suddenly become ultra converts. No worries. Allow us to escort you behind bars where you may speak in tongues 24/7… Run, run, run, BUT Iminsi y’umujura ni 40! The pickle is this: I know nd’umunyarwanda, do they?

Parting Words? Fuck every killer. Fuck every apologist. The end.

  1. That must have been horrifying to be in the same room of someone who was family of a genocidaire. You certainly earned the right to say those things on your blog.
