I am a feminist and so are my father, sisters, mentors, bosses… Yet, in some african milieus, this is a very controversial thing to say. (I’ll now allow a moment for breathing exercises.) Interestingly, the opposite is true in the human rights circles I am in. To proclaim that you do not believe women and men should have equal opportunities would be a messy affair!
It can never be said of me that I hate men. In fact, I adore them. They are fascinating (albeit hairy) creatures. Plus, one cannot dance to Rumba alone.
Having had my bride price paid as well as gallavanted the streets of Atlanta, I can say this:
- We all agree with the premise that men&women need each other. The divergeance of opinions occurs at HOW we are to co-exist.
- The probability of the traditional route having bumpy roads & blurry sceneries is HIGHER. Ndetse igira naba convoyeur badakunda kagati gahumuza (deodorant).
- The best strategy for an accomplished woman living in modern times seems to be “De-Centering” men.Warmly welcoming those coming in and kindly accompanying those leaving.
Que fut, fut; Que seras,seras…
Let the battle of the sexes begin. Off, I go!
