“RABIES”

“Qui veut noyer son chien, l’accuse de rage.”

The above French idiom can be loosely translated to “he that wants to drown his dog, first accuses him of rabies.” As a black professional woman in semi-corporate America, I find I must be especially meticulous in my work product to last in this competition. Luckily, through a series of trials and tribulations, my stamina has now become unparalleled.

Still, the matter remains incredibly frustrating. I too would love to have mediocre Mondays or subpar Saturdays. It is as if one is criminalized for daring to dream as loud as their American counterparts. Very-dark, accent-tongued me? What Insolence. I, of course, delight in insolence! Ya mahane narenganyirijwe mu bwana ndabona azangeza kure… Or as daddy says, “Ariko icyo bita amahane ni iki ubundi? My darling daughter, express your thoughts, debate, counter, etc.”

Ce que père veut, Dieu le veut! (What father wants, God wants!)
