STDs/STIs

Ever since I learned that if you’ve had, say, 10 sexual partners in your lifetime, you’d have been exposed to 1023 people (assuming they’ve had the same numbers of partners as you); I have been prettry paranoid with these things. Ultimately, the only CERTAIN way to stay clean is abstinence. However, spirituality aside, if the body fails you, STI testing is recommended:

  1. Every Year
  2. Every Change of Partner
  3. Every time you experience symptoms

Ideally, one ought to stay abstinent but if BOOM-BOOM or any of its close proximities (skin to skin, oral etc) must happen, one should get tested prior AND use protection. As condoms are 98% effective and with human error, number lowers. Highlighting also that marriage is no exemption as one does not carry their spouse’s genitalia in their purse.

In terms of avoiding unwanted pregnancies, gentle caution that birth control pills have not been around long enough for there to be conclusive studies (1960s). And I’m not trying to be a part of anyone’s class action lawsuit in 20 years. Alternatively, Plan B pill is way worse since higher condensed dose… At this point celibacy is where it’s at (if the body permits.)

PS: Kindly note there is no shame in your status, like every health issue, with prompt diagnosis, everything is manageable with proper treatment.

Happy Thursday!

Love,

Liv
