PAPA & MAMA GENGA

Dearest Reader,

Please pause your activities and raise your breakfast mug to the beautiful couple! My sister and her husband are celebrating 5 years of marriage and 15 years together. (**tears of joy**)

As you know I am a fervent student of love. I long searched for the recipe of healthy longlasting love. I read books, interviewed who I deemed to be strong couples etc. People always provided me with the same cliché tips: communicate, don’t go to bed angry, a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so cook for him; bla bla bla. I applied these tips and things went south. (Though the argument could be made that I picked an imcompatible partner to begin with, due to cultural differences…) In any case, I feel like people have no clue either. It seems these things are more or less the result of chance. The only advice I will always apply, out of the hundreds I received, is what my sister wrote me at my bridal shower: always pray and always put yourself first. That really is the essence of it. There is no formula, there is no recipe. Just stay content and grateful to God. The truth is life is a DEI jungle: Some like S&R will experience one true love in their lifetimes; others like me will experience a series of loves, some Made in China some full of passion and fire… Ultimately there is beauty in both scenarios. Everyone’s destiny is different and one cannot defy destiny. What remains a fundamental truth though is that in the end, everyone always gets a piece of the pie.

Revenons à nos moutons; Mama & Papa Genga, I wish you milk and honey, as they say in Rwanda. Muzabyare hungu na kobwa. (Nimba mufite izo mbaraga, nabonye kubyara ari birefu). Your happiness is my happiness. May God continue to give us causes for celebrations. Celebrating you today and always!

With Infinite Love,

XOXO
