IN RE: BEAUTY

One of my favorite texts ever written is the UN Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR). It recognizes the right to bodily autonomy as a fundamental human right. As such, I your humble servant, would not dare instruct anyone on what to do with their bodies. Still, I can’t help but feel like the Multi-Billion industry of Plastic Surgery is scam-ish.

Long ago, I came to the conclusion that obsessing over beauty is unhealthy. (1)These beauty standards are impossible and ever changing! So at any given point, we will all be the “uglies” of society —- chacun a son tour chez le coiffeur (everyone must wait their turn at the barbershop) —- as they say in Francophone Africa. (2)To Question your beauty is to question the infallibity of God. So then, what is beauty? What you see in the mirror. Case Closed. (Pro Tip: **repeat it ‘till you believe it**)
