Following a recent promotion; I, your trusted servant, along with a team of others, have been tasked with observing the US elections. I now pause to reflect on the enormity of this moment.
My father grew up in a remote village in the Southern Province of Rwanda in an economically challenged but love-filled family. His parents, while brilliant, could neither read nor write. My mother grew up a class above, her father had managed to school in France and her mother was a teacher; so their financial situation was satisfactory. Mother obtained her MBA and worked for a non-profit. Father too obtained his MBA, went into business and rocked the market. Together, they travelled to America, commenced their PhDs and ate a piece of the American pie.
Now comes we, not surviving but striving in America. Look at Gaaad! (*Toni Braxton’s Mama voice*) Father used a word he hadn’t used today: influential. He thinks I am becoming influential…
One Love. One Heart.
