As we approach my 32nd birthday, I thought to adopt a semblance of good gal behavior. Got off social media so I can pray, drink water, read etc. The below is a snapshot of the 14 Days.
Day 1: This day is special for two reasons. (1) 100 Years Ago, on 10/1/1924 – President JC was born. (2) I got a promotion at work today at HIS Organization! God remains “biggie-biggie-biggie”…
Day 2: Today, I learned that Black children are five times more likely to suffer from lead poisoning due to proximity to waste sites compared to white children. How troubling that they legit drew the city maps to have ghettos positioned near dumps… The World Has Gone Mad. So, today, in the words of the great Nwigwe, “try Jesus, not me”.
Day 3: The Atlanta African Women Association I am a part of is hosting a Fundraising Gala and they will crown a “Miss Africa Beauty & Brains.” Guess who’s considering participating? Moi. F… around and win! Love trying random things. This is how I ended up in Black Panther 1 & 2 (*soft brag*).
Day 4: I took 20 min to pray this morning before work. Wrote a song. Based on Psalm 6 “Have mercy for I am weak, my bones are troubled” (Sing) David is my favorite Psalmist. His lament & wail to God speaks to me because though he fell 7* 77, he rose again. May God lighten our burdens. It is well.
Day 5: I walked 10k steps today then went to watch Kidumu, the icon of East African Music. Very reminiscent of a bill-free stage of my life where I was princess in my father’s home. Can’t wait to be a Queen in my Husband’s home. Once upon a time, I tried the whole matrimony saga, but they tried to make me a maid, so I sprinted out the door. Kidumu did make us wait 3 hours but we’ve since forgiven him … “Mukobwa Ingendo Yawe, Yoma Mu Bitekerezo Byanjye… ”
Day 6: I note that a rare thing has happened, my suitor roster has run dry. Couple previous suitors were eliminated based on incompatibility. And after being shamelessly catfished in broad daylight, I deleted my Hinge Account. Since then, my phone is dry. I view this as a blessing though. While it is true that I am not made of wood and metal and would benefit from a warm presence by my side especially as we approach cold winter months; it is good for a human to be alone sometimes. Good to learn how to quench that need for attention from the opposite sex. A need I have seen destroy destinies. This, ladies and gents, is my Time to Reset & Recalibrate!
Day 7: I am honored to have been selected as part of the team that will monitor the US elections. We are non-partisan and we are not concerned with the outcome of the election, rather we wish to ensure the integrity of the process is maintained.
Day 8: Visited my friend’s Congolese church. Pastor cautioned us against calling our men baby because it infantilizes then. Instead, we are to call them my Lord. As Sarah called Abraham. African churches amuse me. I can’t believe I used to apply these tips… Lord Have Mercy.
Day 9: I was supposed to teach Kinyarwanda but only 3 people signed up and 1 is not even Rwandan. I have decided to postpone and study the community longer. Either the non-Kinyarwanda speakers don’t care to learn OR this service was not properly advertised…
Day 10 As I write this, Dad and his wife are touring Europe on a cruise and wifey sent me a meme that read “cruising away our kids’ inheritance”. Somebody put my family on TV!
Day 11: Lately, I’ve had this bad habit of starting books and not finishing them. I like to think, it is because I read so much in my profession, it’s sucked the fun out of it. Really, I think I just became lazier. So… got a signed copy of “A day in the life of Abed Salama – Anatomy of a Jerusalem Tragedy“. Let’s see how fast I can finish it. Ready, set, go!
Day 12: Have y’all seen the UAE version of Love is Blind? Habibi, these Arab men are fine. A very close second to African men. Mashallah! And Arabic love songs are even more beautiful than French love songs. (**one moment, as I book a flight to UAE. **)
Day 13: 100th Howard Homecoming is next week, and I just found out. I am such a bad alumnus. Trying to move things around see if I can go to DC. Guess who else went to Howard? Madam VP!
Day 14: I started learning chess and I’m mad at how slow my brain is processing. I miss IG! Wonder what everyone is up to! Wonder who made it to the Shade room. Did they find out where Diddy bought all that baby oil?
Love, Love, Love, Love.
