Battleground, GA

Out of the 50 American states, 43 are set. This means voters will likely always vote blue (California) or red (Texas). Fun fact, the last time a Dem took Texas, it was President Carter in 1976… So if you are running, you want to focus of the 7 “swing states”. States like, Georgia.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia. The city of Atlanta is considered “Black Mecca” and we’ve had Black Mayors for the past 20+ years. However, Atlanta is situated within the state of Georgia. GA being one of the states that seceded from the Union to form the Confederate States of America, which fought to preserve slavery. The juxtaposition is fascinating…

GA wasn’t always a swing state. Last election, in 2020, was the first time in decades, the state swung blue. When it did, the Grand Old Party (GOP) challenged in court the results and claimed voter fraud. Election results were upheld. Covid came, we thought the world was ending so when it did not, things were Kumbaya/ Hakuna Matata for a hot second.

Now, our state is in play again. Presidential Candidate Trump was here 2 days ago and Presidential Candidate Harris was here couple weeks before. An election observation mission was born. We are a neutral, non partisan group and have been hitting the polls at 6a. We are exhausted but there is a real sense of “is this how history is made?”
