In my new role, I am under the supervision of a beautiful Arab woman whose brain is more fatal than her physique. First of all she looks “GOODT.” She drives a luxury car and always has on stilettos, red lips, red nails, along with that yellow dubai gold I’ve been trying to get my hands on. This an unfamiliar sight in the philanthropic world! Most people in these spaces see riches as unethical so they thrift and/or make their clothes. I respect it but I’m too foreign for that shi*#%. I did not leave my country at age 16, go to University for 7+ years in the snow with a freezing behind to then go and Nyabugogo in foreign land. (**Popular second hand clothing market in Rwanda**)
Second, LOVE watching her boss up in a male dominated field. We are to ensure the organization is up to code with international standards & we deal with a lot of international partners who are more often than not, male. She is fluent in arabic and I am fluent in french. Watching her give directions to Arab men (whose culture can be oppressive to women) and they having to submit to her leadership is a sight for sore eyes. I am told, soon I will be tackling the African francophone market… If you know anything about some of our African men, they don’t like to follow directions from a woman…. So this is how patriarchy will be fought? Squeeze your way to top & leave the ninjas no choice? Sexy!
