RIDE OR DIE? THE “FUDGE”?

Early this year, I received a message from a woman in Rwanda saying one of those almost-family member of mine had impregnanted her and refused to take accountability. (Key word: Almost Fam. There are no cowards in my blood line.) After investigating that her story was in fact true, I tried to reason with the man, when it did not work, I instructed the young woman about how to contact the authorities.

The whole child support concept is a novel concept in our parts of the world. In the past, I think we had other systems to hold deadbeats accountable like fear of elders, fear of curse, honor system, and I’d venture and say actual spells? (or at the very least, fear that a spell will be put on you.) As most of our African traditional practices died, humans became more savage. Yes, savage, because to impregnant a woman (willingly or unwillingly because who sent you to play-play?) and refuse to take responsibility is a heightened level of cowardice. Let this serve as a notice, to all my almost-family members, that while I NEVER involve myself in couple’s drama, an exception is made concerning child support, so do pray that your women don’t contact me because, I will in fact, you guessed it, SNITCH. (Point- Barre.)
