I’m applying for a Business Visa because soon, I will go on my first EVER International mission! (But God… )
I always wanted to be a lawyer. Not in the courtroom/traditional sense either. Father said I could do anything so when I was in my teens, I’d say I wanted to work for the UN or Lawyers without Borders. I was troubled by war, conflict & genocide. I grew up around such my whole life. Rwandan parents would recall, the entire nation reeked of blood in early 90s. The nation had to be rebuilt from scratch. Growing up I never saw an ambulance for example. You understand, if everything is destroyed some details like ambulances will take time. I also don’t recall seeing recreational parks much. If you must build schools and construct roads, the leisure of your citizens is not at the forefront of your mind.
I later considered the Hague inspired by the Works of Madame Bensouda, first woman and first African to serve as ICC Prosecutor.

Named by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Before she was 40, at age 37, she had served as Minister for Justice in Gambia. Prior to which she helped prosecute Génocidaires masterminds from my country at ICTR. All this while wearing Boubous, always!

With power comes trouble. When Bensouda launched investigation on US’s potential war crimes in Afghanistan, the US State Department revoked her visa. So after much reflection, I have come to the conclusion that Philanthropy is the quickest answer. We can advocate for greaters rights, prosecute all the bad actors BUT in the meantime, children are hungry & while we can disagree on just about any topic under the sun, the case has never be made that a child ought to die of malnutrition.
So guess what my job today is? About the only job I’ve ever loved because I high key don’t even like to work, (what a Ghetto activity…) Today, I work for large non-profit that has for mission “the alleviation of human suffering.” Doesn’t get more tailor-made than that…
May God lead the way! Scratch that, for God has led the way.
