INTROVERTS

Introverts, accept my most sincere apologies. Uziko mwakubititse di? They really did not design society with you in mind. In school, you’re expected to raise your hand and participate. In church, you’re expected to serve the people. At work, you’re expected to attend random happy hours and socialize with colleagues. I don’t even like those and I’m an extrovert. Forced interactions are so bizarre. Must we really disgust your cat’s favorite meal?

Nobody seems to have considered this: what if interacting with others brings anxiety? They don’t seem to particular care. I better not hear another, “omg you’re so quiet, I forgot you were here” (yea? And I’m so loud, they probably think there are two me… let us accept each other) Plus everyone makes assumptions of your personality. They either think you rude or standoff-ish, when really you just think before you talk. The rest of us talk and think at the same time. Some even eliminate the thinking part entirely… So frankly, what’s weirder?

I’ve been guilty of pressuring quiet people myself. Mea Culpa. We’ll take your silence as acceptance of our apology. Thanks!

XOXO
