NEWSWORTHY

Did you catch me on the News yesterday? Ay! Pinky Out. We moving up! In Rwanda, we say “Ikura ku cyavu ikicazanya n’ibikomangoma” (God will lift you from the bottomless depth & sit you with dignitaries.) I had an unconventional law career. I did a 10 month stunt at the Public Defender’s Office. Quickly realized, firms and courts not only bore me, I find the pretentious nature of folks there unbearable. Plus, while every accused deserves a defense; not about to spend my life defending people on their 10th DUI. In contrast, don’t have it in me to prosecute fellow countrymen. Not with current stats… Blacks in America constitute 13% of population yet 37% of jails. IS YOU KIDDING ME? Anyway, the only way I’m coming back is with my own Law Offices. Mugenga& Mugenga, LLP. All in all, it took A LOT of trial and error but I have finally settled in my calling: Humanitarian Field Work/ Public Service/ Civic Leadership.

Yesterday cimented it. When I, child of immigrants, survivor of the most barbaric genocide the modern world has known. I, femme noire, femme africaine, was escorted by a host of secret service agents at a state funeral to honor the legendary President Jimmy Carter. That, dearest reader, is the unmerited favor of God.
