One of my biggest pet-peeve as a baby artist/writer is when people misquote me. Last time, someone said to me, I love how you always say “F Men”. I challenge you to find 1 instance in the 200 blog pieces I’ve published where I said such a thing.
I have indeed long spoken on the battle of the sexes but my focus is always on needed collaboration. In fact, my first song ever, African Ballerina– available on all platforms – was literally about “talk love, not hate”. I even wrote a piece titled “If men are broken, it is society that
broke them“ (For which I got a bit of backlash from some women…) I am not sure how I can make my position clear-er. I don’t hate men. I love men. F*** Men? Not unless they ask. Pun Intended.
This, however, is nothing compared to what bigger artists experience. Take Asa for example, one of my favorite underrated Nigerian female artist who sang one of the most iconic lines in music history “Akinyele wants to marry wife, he don’t wanna pay the bride price, you better find it!” I woke up today reminiscent of her music so I checked out her track “Ocean” released 2 years ago. Her beach scene was so similar to something I had seen in Tayc & Dadju’s clip “Contract” released 5 months ago. I went back to double check, and BOOM! S*** too similar to be a coincidence. Stop plagiarizing people! Not cool.
