Are YOU the Problem?

Sometimes we are the cause of our own headache. Knowing that comparison is the thief of joy, why do we insist on keeping up with the “Habimanas”? I stopped using Facebook when the aunties & uncles hijacked it but on IG, I try very hard to only follow people I know in real life OR those who bring me genuine peace/inspiration/amusement like (1) Afro-Tailors with cool Gitenge pieces. (2) Activists that speak to my soul. (3) The Shaderoom – for my dose of contained gossip. Etc. I don’t even follow big name celebrities. What for? Darling, I am the celebrity. If your feed is full of triggers: a person whose life you envy, an ex you still covet upon, etc. Can we objectively agree, you are the origin of your misery? Perhaps, it is time we clean our feeds?

Finally, super-mega shoutout to my sister, Sandrine. Genocide Survivor turned Genocide Scholar (PhD), turned Genocide Prevention Expert at the UN. Does it get any cooler?
