Wedding Weekend!!!
The Bride looks angelic. I have instructed her to not lift a finger except to point at us her servants. The aunties still comment on weight and the grandmas are even more savage. The kindest aunties seem to have adopted a new strategy; compliment your current weight while annihilating previous you. “Aha! Voilà! My daughter, this is very good now. Last year when I saw you- I said does her husband not feed her?”.The less traditional cousins are still masters at evading labor. Talking about I have work, I have school. As if our daily bread is manna that falls from heaven. While the more traditional cousins feel the burden to do it all. Them too, I don’t know why they tire themselves. I am somewhere in the middle. Older people should not labor while younger people sit, seeing that our bones are more dense. However, life is to be choped and I wanna stay cute. Why don’t we cater from Ike’s again? They say it’s cheaper. But is it? Is there a price to oil from sambusas staining my perfect manicure? I beg let me rest.
So me- I will not necessarily deep wash the pots. Because wawu, the pots they use are huge. However, I will linger in the kitchen, wipe the counter, sweep the floor, bring drinks to everyone, entertain the gallery, you know,- give the impression I too am laboring without actually suffering.
Oh, how good it feels to be home.
