We must really be giving Nigerian Consulate because why are Rwandan Girls in my DM like “ntamu Naija sha chérie ngumpe aga pass?” (TR: Any Naijas available for me?) And I already know my Nigerian guy friends love Rwandan girls, since we classically tend to be soft spoken, they figure we’re ultra-submissive. LOL. Real Gangsters move in silence, baby. Anyway, long thought of opening an Elite African Dating Agency, perhaps this is my sign.

I spent the past 4 days with family that flew in for Aurora’s Wedding festivities. Got lots of work to catch up on, it’s 1:30a- must be up at 5a but given the season I am in, (a season where ntamwana nonsa ntanumugabo ungonera), I think I can manage. Also, guess what? I’d ditch work at any given point again for family. It is only in America that I have heard of people being estranged from families. It is probably because in our parts of the world we are kinly aware of death that we don’t toy with such things. Truly, some families are in fact toxic and will drain the life out of you. Plus, even the healthiest of families have drama: this aunty is a user, that uncle is negative, this cousin has a venomous tongue, that sister is the jealous type. Etc.Nonetheless, your parents are your gods on Earth (in the african context, parents include mother, father, uncles, aunts, grandmas).
Don’t get me wrong, I STAY archiving people on Whatsapp and pretending I didn’t get their messages because some do too much. However, when in need, I always do my best to support everyone. Many accusations can be raised against me, but no kin of mine can ever say they were hungry and I burped in their face. My take is this: when you have difficult, irresponsible, mean parents; you are to strategically oppose them (musn’t always hang and talk on the phone) BUT you must fulfill your obligations as a daughter/son. That is, wishing them blessings on major holidays, accompanying them financially as you can, showing up for their medical appointments and other milestones etc. Because forgive me, but “non, tu n’est pas le nombril du monde.” (You are not the navel of the world, aka- center of the world.) – Do your part, regardless & God will bless you! Amen.
XOXO
