River Blindness

I got ready in a record 17 min this morning from 7:18-7:35a. (Shower was 5 min, Lotion/Fit 5 min, Hair 5 Min, Coat/Keys 2 min. Makeup in car on the go.) This week, at work, we are celebrating the administration of 500 million doses of meds against river blindness, one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE blindness worldwide – which has more than 99% of infected persons, tenez-vous bien (hold on tight), living in Africa… I am not on the health side of my organization, but their work fascinates me because they focus on the eradication of NTD =Neglected tropical diseases.

Prof has a huge vendetta against international non-profits, he thinks they, more often than not, are money-laundering tools that benefit from people’s pain. He exclaims, “Olivia, they go and tell people we are hungry, collect $100, give us $5, keep $95, who’s hungrier?”. I interject, “but isn’t $5 better than nothing?” He tells me no; I’d rather we die with dignity. That is where we disagree… Whose side are you on?
