Religion v. Colonialism

Kemi Seba (seen below burning his French passport exclaiming “We are not Dogs!”- Passport he never sought to acquire he was born there) – is one of the most influential Francophone Black thinkers of our times. Instrumental in the fight against ridiculous french currency (CFA) that operates in 14 African nations — Get this, the monies are legit printed in France by Bank de France, THE FUDGE? Currency was allegedly renamed ECO and reformed -in theory- BUT I can tell you, it ain’t in practice… when I went to Chad some weeks ago, nobody was asking no ECO for payment…

I don’t agree with every one of KS’s position which is perfectly normal as an evolved human with a brain. We musn’t agree on every detail. But I must applaud his reflection on Religion v. Colonialism which is unlike anything I’ve heard before! (Let me know if you want a verbal breakdown on my youtube.)

In Essence his views (which mirror mine) are: (1) YES: Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, etc.) are colonial. They quite literally stole our lands, sold our men and left us Holy Book. A Travesty! (2) YES: There is but One God, the Creator of Heavens and Earth. I’d go as far as to say, to ignore the existence of a God is to be too engulfed in self/conceited… (My own commentary not KS) (3) YES: African spiritualism is NOT witchcraft. Why shall we abandon our century-old practices because an uninvited white/arab man said so?

In Sum; what then shall we do? Shall we deny God? Calumny! Shall we defy God? Calumny! We can adopt these abrahamic religions (perverted by colonial masters) WHILE continuing to have a strong knowledge of our African roots, mother of all civilisations AND negating not african spirituality – which doesn’t necessarily contradict the Holy Books. Ultimately – the one true religion, as prescribes the Bible, the Coran & the Torah: Love.

May God Bless you and in the words of KS, May our (worthy) ancestors watch over you! One Love, One Africa.
