Aventures à Kin

It is my second week in Kinshasa. The (real) city of Love. I am eating sweet potato leaves, in a boubou and gold africa-shape earrings. Money doesn’t move me, humans do. BTW- Soon, one of my million ideas will materialize: “Genga’s Garage” this will be an aunthentic African shop with pieces specifically curated by me. You will be able to buy waistbeads, fabric, headwraps, chebe hair oil, etc. It is named after our daughter, Genga, because a percentage of all proceeds will support literacy in African children. (Recall, we sent 60 books in Kabarondo, Rwanda in 2023 and 550 books in Kumasi, Ghana in 2024).

Also, did you know gold is significantly cheaper in Africa? While the “spot price” of gold (the price for immediate delivery) is generally the same worldwide, transaction costs are way cheaper.

Lastly, je confirme, la reputation des Congolais sapeurs, tiens. ——— (I confirm, the reputation about Congolese being “sappeur” (well dressed) is valid.) What? Never heard of la SAPE? Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes… You, darling are missing out… Sapologie is life!
