Respect God, Respect Death

Former Nigerian President Buhari is no more, so in reverence to his Islamic faith I say, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” (“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”) I caution those who are rejoicing over his death, no matter the alleged validity of his sins. When death intervenes, you wash your hands and give thanks. Nothing more, nothing less. If you don’t fear men, at least fear God.

Take me for instance… This week I received news that the person who has stolen our maternal properties for decades passed. Keep in mind, this person tired us so much. She was married to a great-uncle and together they placed themselves as next of kin for the entire maternal line, alleging everyone was dead (knowing very well WE had survived.) After the great-uncle passed, things did not get better, she took advantage of us not being on the ground and not only continued to steal our land, she SOLD our land. We never even knew, until one fine day, my dad was showing my sister – our mom’s village, only for them to see a FUCKING building being built… Particularly troubling as the property carries sentimental value since our entire maternal family lived there AND was there until the end. In any case, you KNOW my sister and I were like HELL NO… We have been intensely battling in court for years… YET, when we heard the news of her passing, we put all animosity aside and said was “May God receive her and comfort the family.”

Dad taught us long ago: Responding to indecency with indecency is a big “Kirazira”… God have mercy on us all.
