It is 3am, creative juices are highest “iyo nicuye” – which is when I work on “Ode to My Father”. (First Book) The topic of Sankara possibly being a Socialist comes up in my research. These economic systems STAY confusing me. So… I call for a quickie. Not the type others are engaging in at this ungodly hour. My bed is mighty empty… I could pretend it is because I am a celibate-modest-devout woman; truth is – my roster ran dry and needs updating! Sensible souls, forgive the shock. I am not in the business of pretense, I share my life as is, nothing manufactured over here. So, help me God… Anyway, after my quickie research, I will now attempt to sum it up for the population:
1. Capitalism. Everything is up for bargain, including your soul.
2. Socialism. To reduce social inequalities, the community as a whole should own the factories etc. Problem being lack of competition stifles economic growth. Many African leaders were a fan (i.e. Nyerere, Nkrumah, etc.)
3. Communism: Socialism on steroids. More radical, it aims for a classless society. Wealth distributed equally among citizens. Problem is when Gov. is in charge, they do too much… (Authoritarianism)
4. Marxism: Godfather of it all. Predicted that capitalism, by exploiting workers, (who make less than the value their labor creates) will ALWAYS lead to a revolution by the proletariat (working class) against the bourgeoisie.
SO, NOW WHAT? ZERO CLUE. I’m sleepy & must rise bright & early to update my love roster. Candidates, email your CVs at ipledgeallegiancetoliv@gmail.com.
