Tradwife Comeback: Big Fat Scam

We have a sort of lunch-time debate club at work. We mostly focus on topics that relate to racial reconciliation as we deem it to be America’s gravest sin.

We were brainstorming ideas for next session. Someone suggested the following. “The current ‘tradwife’ movement and how it’s based on this romanticized view of previous generations of women at home; however, wasn’t that ability built on having domestic, underpaid help that tended/tends to be POC?

If you read my blog you know I always found the “abakozi bo murugo” concept (the help) unethical. Ancient in Western societies but incredibly prevelant in the developing world. In fact, EVERY SINGLE household I know in Rwanda has live-in help. All my family members included.

Now fast-forward to the US, there is an added racial component here. This is because the “help” was more often than not People of Color (POC). Keep this in mind next time you are sipping pineapple juice, doing your best in this economy, resisting the urge to do prostitution to supplement your income —— and someone positions a camera to make cereal from scratch on a weekday at 2p for no apparent reason.

While the autonomy of women also means if a woman wants to stay at home, she should; I would be remis if I did not add a disclaimer. I ain’t never seen that formula age well… May be cute when you’re 30 but the day you will wake up at 50, having done nothing but wipe behinds and make fufu, I can almost guarantee, you will feel resentment.

NB: Hey black man! We love you. (In my ceasefire era, remember?)

May God give us all the wisdom to do what is right in His sight. Amen. One Love,
